Guided walk in Leiden – Pilgrim Fathers and Jewish Monuments by Dawn Macfarlane

Explore the stories of Leiden with a local alumna

Leiden has a well-documented connection with the Pilgrim Fathers, who lived in Leiden for a number of years before sailing to America. Dawn will show some of the places connected with the Pilgrims and also 4 of the 5 locations of the Jewish Monument, Bagage related to the Nazi occupation. The two topics being loosely linked by the theme – Religious Persecution.

Dawn will tell the stories of these 2 different events in Leiden’s history and show other points of interest as we go.

We’ll meet outside Rijksmuseum van Oudheden (National Museum of Antiquities) Rapenburg 28, 2311 EW Leiden a short walk from Leiden Central Station. 

After the walk you are welcome to join Dawn for a drink (courtesy of the Oxford & Cambridge Society).

We will kick off the night with drinks at Kopstoot Bar first, after which we will make our way to Duke of Tokyo (10 mins walk) for karaoke in a private room. All levels of singing are welcome! 

Karaoke ticket price*: 17 EUR – Member | 21 EUR – Guest** or First-time attendee (non-Member)

Kopstoot Bar: Please reserve a separate free ticket for drinks (drinks are not covered). You are also welcome to join for drinks without karaoke and vice versa.

**Due to very limited number of tickets, one guest is allowed per member for karaoke. 

Booking deadline & cancellation policy. The last day for obtaining tickets is May 11. Please note that ticket cancellation is also only possible until this date for a refund. Tickets may well be cancelled after, however, there will be no refund. We will operate a waitlist, so these types of cancellations may be refunded if a suitable replacement is found.

Annual Cambridge vs Oxford Boat Race, AGM & Dinner at KR&ZV Het Spaarne

The Committee is excited to invite you to watch the live screening of the Boat Race between Oxford and Cambridge at KR&ZV Het Spaarne, a boat club in Heemstede, just south of Haarlem. 

We will hold the Annual General Meeting (AGM) in between the women’s and men’s races, followed by a three-course dinner. Snacks will be served while the races are ongoing, while drinks are available for purchase at the bar from 3pm to 8:30pm

Ticket price:  41 EUR – Member | 46 EUR – Guest or First-time attendee (non-Member)

Dinner menu

• Soup of the day served with bread and herb butter
• Pearl barley risotto with roasted tomato, roasted fennel, mushrooms, and eggplant served with ribeye (vegetarian option: ribeye is replaced with celeriac steak) 
• Apple-rhubarb crumble with rose cream
• Tea or coffee with sweets

Water will be served with dinner; for all other drinks, members may purchase them at the bar.

You are invited to this first The Hague Weekend Social – an opportunity to meet the many members of our growing alumni community in the city (although members from Leiden, Amsterdam are welcome to come down as well!)  Don’t miss this opportunity to meet our The Hague alumni community in a relaxed social setting! 

This event has been put in response to the growing number of members in The Hague. Hence, we would like to give everyone the opportunity to connect – new and old faces alike.  

Come join us on Saturday, March 23rd at 5pm to mingle with local alumni at O’Casey’s Irish pub. The ticket includes some nibbles and one welcome drink per person (there is plenty of (non-)alcoholic choices and can be given upon arrival). Please note that you are welcome to bring along a plus one (limited to one person given venue capacity).
