You are invited to this first The Hague Weekend Social – an opportunity to meet the many members of our growing alumni community in the city (although members from Leiden, Amsterdam are welcome to come down as well!)  Don’t miss this opportunity to meet our The Hague alumni community in a relaxed social setting! 

This event has been put in response to the growing number of members in The Hague. Hence, we would like to give everyone the opportunity to connect – new and old faces alike.  

Come join us on Saturday, March 23rd at 5pm to mingle with local alumni at O’Casey’s Irish pub. The ticket includes some nibbles and one welcome drink per person (there is plenty of (non-)alcoholic choices and can be given upon arrival). Please note that you are welcome to bring along a plus one (limited to one person given venue capacity).

Mark your calendars for the 17th of February (Saturday), a day destined for unforgettable moments and joyous celebrations. Join us at 2:30 pm in Rotterdam, where the magic begins at the Rotterdam Chinese New Year (RCNY) festival (https://rcny.nl/ ).

Immerse yourself in the captivating traditional awakening ceremony, where the lion comes to life in a mesmerizing display. Feel the pulse of the event with enchanting music performances, electrifying dance routines, a Kungfu workshop that’ll leave you breathless, and the chance to explore the rich tapestry of Chinese arts and traditions aboard festival trams!

But that’s not all – the excitement doesn’t end there! At 5 pm, we’ll embark on a culinary adventure to an authentic Chinese restaurant for a delectable dinner gathering. To secure your spot in this spectacular celebration, make sure to register and grab your dinner ticket ASAP.

Apr 12-14 | Spring Weekend Walking Trip to Belgium

Join us for a weekend exploring nature across the border

Join us for this first-time weekend walking trip outing across the border. Led by Ping and Hans, two of our longest-standing members who regularly guide walks, we will embark on a journey to explore the beautiful nature of the Ardennes. Group accommodation will be organized or you may join individually by organizing your own.

Given the limited size for accommodation, please note sign-up will be on a first come, first served basis. Please note that only alumni with active memberships for 2024 at sign-up can book a spot. So please make sure to get yours if you have not yet.

Accommodation: We will stay in houses (btw 6-8 people) in the same village. Price for accommodation for 2 nights is 75 EUR pp. The location is Harre, Manhay (Belgium) .

It is possible to arrange your own accommodation and just join for the walks. Please still sign-up and indicate the option at the checkout.

Food: We would like to arrange for group dinners on both evenings. Simple breakfast and packed-lunches will also be an option (we will be in touch with details on costs and options after sign-up). Please indicate any dietary requirements or allergies at check-out.

Travel: We will aim to carpool (possibly from The Hague, Den Bosch), however, the location is reachable via train (via Brussels). If you wish to go by car, please indicate at check-out.

Schedule:

  • Friday, April 12th – Arrival at the accommodation, cooking & dinner, time for socializing
  • Saturday, April 13th – Walking trip led by Hans (detailed route information and possible stops TBA)
  • Sunday, April 14th – Optional small walking trip in the morning

We may extend the invitation to alumni members in Belgium or Luxembourg to join us for the walking part of the journey only. However, lodging is limited to NL members and their guests.

REFUND POLICY: A full refund is possible only before March 1st 2024. So please do check your diaries carefully. Whenever possible we will try to offer informal swaps with people on the waitlist.

Candlemas 3rd February 2024 & Call for Performance Contribution

Get ready for an unforgettable evening of music, poetry, presentations, and quizzes as we revive our cherished Candlemas tradition every early February. Mark your calendars for the upcoming Candlemas on the evening of 3 February, 2024 – you won’t want to miss it!

This year’s celebration promises a fantastic blend of fun, delectable food, and refreshing drinks, providing the perfect opportunity to mingle with both familiar faces and new members in a laid-back atmosphere. It’s more than just an event; it’s a chance to warm your spirits and banish those winter blues.

If you’re feeling inspired, we invite you to contribute to the festivities! Whether it’s reading a poem, organizing a quiz, giving a talk, performing a monologue, or playing music, your unique talents are welcome. As always, our traditional venue, Emile van Leenen’s Pianos at Lammermarkt 59, 2312 CM in Leiden, will play host to this exceptional evening. Convenient (paid) parking is available at Parkeergarage Lammermarkt (Molen de Valk) nearby, and the venue is just a leisurely 10-minute stroll from Leiden Central Station. Doors open at 7pm and proceedings start at 7.30pm.
